We’re talking 1981, I am 20 years old and a big fan of John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and the other spearheads of the New Thing in Jazz. I more than anything want to catch the Archie Shepp Quartet concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague.
Cameras were allowed during the concert as long as you didn’t use flash and I took this photo with a Kodak 400 ISO film in my newly bought Pentax ME camera with a 70-150mm zoom lens f/3.5. I had completely mislaid the negatives and only rediscovered them recently at my dad’s house. I would recommend everybody to hunt for old, forgotten negatives. ^_^
The most memorable thing of that concert was the the Dutch Jazz accordionist Johnny Meijer. I’ve been a fan of Archie Shepp’s work ever since. The bassist in that concert was Harry Emmery.
