Armistice Day

On 11 November 1918, knowing that the armistice was due to start at 11AM, the officers spurred on their soldiers to fight to the last minute to gain a few hundred yards or not even as much as that. Consequently there were 10,944 casualties of which 2,738 men died on the last day of the war.
