Atomic Bomb Dome, Hiroshima

At 8:15 on August 6, 1945 the first nuclear bomb to be used in war detonated almost directly above the Atomic Bomb Dome, the actual centre of the blast was 150m away, the building is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I post-processed this shot to make it look as dark as I could make it while still keeping it recognizable. I feel very much for the people who died and Hiroshima depresses me to no end. The museum and the Peace Park are of course debit to this, but it is not only that, the whole city is just liked painted black to me. I have been to Nagasaki and the Nagasaki Peace Park and atomic bomb museum as well and find Nagasaki much easier to stomach. The only reason to get out of the Shinkansen in Hiroshima, in my opinion, would be to visit Miyajima, which is of course a tourist trap of the worst sort, but the sights there do hold up and I accepted the tiresome commercialism.
