Another one of the Welsh lighthouses, South Stack is at the bottom of 400 stone steps and our hiking in Snowdonia came in useful.

Pilot House at Penmon Point Lighthouse

One of the two Pilot Houses at Penmon Point. There seem to be a little bit of confusion about these houses, according to some web pages no pilot ever lived in these houses yet they are called the Pilot Houses. No matter what, they must have the best location in the world, look at that vista!

Penmon Point Lighthouse and Puffin Island

The Penmon Point Lighthouse guards the treacherous waters between Penmon Point, or Trwyn Du, and Puffin Island, or Ynys Seiriol. I took some colour shots from almost the same location, compare them here. I prefer the black and white but mainly because I think the foreground helps the composition in the photo above and the little person fishing helps to give scale to it.

Llyn Ogwen on a quiet morning, with barrel

The lake with a nice reflection of Pen yr Ole Wen on the right side of the photo. But what is that barrel doing in this idyllic lake? On this small frame the shock isn't as big, but in the larger image, the eyes wander around the idyllic scene to get stuck on that ugly barrel.

There has been a mystery about the name of Pen yr Ole Wen which is translated as "Slope of the White Light," but I think my photo sheds some light on this name. The lake, Llyn Ogwen, you will see in some other shots in the next few days.

Last week we spent a few days camping at the base of Tryfan, a well-known mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales. A well deserved break and we really had a good time even though it rained a lot most of the time and there was a strong wind that ruined several tents on the camp-site we were using.

The Pasteis de Nata, a custard tart, is the staple diet for lunch for the tourist in Lisbon and it is sold everywhere. Apparently the Antiga Confeitaria de Belem, just off the waterfront in Belem, sells the best of them in all of Lisbon. Unfortunately, we didn't know that at the time so we bough them here and they're pretty good too! :-)
