April 1st, we visited the Kanamara Matsuri (かなまら祭り) in Kawasaki, popularly known as the “Penis Festival” or by its proper English name: “Festival of the Steel Phallus.” I was with friends from Sweden on the second day of their first visit to Japan, talk about taking a flying start to a vacation. 🙂
The katsugite of the title refers to the people carrying the mikoshi at a Japanese festival, quite the honour.
