April 1st, we visited the Kanamara Matsuri (かなまら祭り) in Kawasaki. We had arrived by train at the Kawasaki-Daishi Station (Keikyu-line) and walked over to one of the streets over which the parade would come and waited around. Plenty of nice Japanese people around who allowed their photos to be taken, but it was clear that by far the majority of the spectators were tourists who had come for the unusual show. 🙂
Eventually the mikoshi came along and the men carrying it, the katsugite, were ever so serious and proud to carry the heavy load.
