One of the highlights every year was the camp-fire and the baking of bread. The way I remember it, my mother would mix some flower with water and we would put that dough on a stick and hold it above the fire until it was sort of done; no yeast or baking-powder was used and it must have been inedible; but loads of fun for us kids!
